The anti-consultant consultant
I'm Laura Novich, a curious research designer, systems thinker, data detective, and podcast host and producer. I’m also someone who has spent over 15 years obsessively tracking what happens to stuff after people are done with it and why and how.
My background spans environmental science and sustainable interior design, and my work lives at the intersection of systems thinking and innovative research methodology. I help translate the complexity of circular systems into everyday life and pull what's happening in the real world back into the research that shapes policy and practice.
Before venturing fully on my own and starting ABCLMNOP, I was a partner at Hyloh, a materials research collective, for nearly seven years. Prior to that, I was a materials researcher at Material ConneXion and a project manager of a research grant at The City College of New York focused on quantifying materials reuse in NYC. I’ve spent my career building a deep, ground-level understanding of how materials move through the world, get discarded, and find new life. That foundation shapes everything I do.
